1909
: Creation of SAF
Since
its foundation in 1909, SAF has never ceased to participate in
the evolution of the welding and cutting profession. At the beginning
SAF was the main company involved in welding works in France.
Using the autogeneous oxyacetylene flame welding technique (hence
numerous early partnership agreements with AIR LIQUIDE), SAF's
activity was focussed mainly on ship repairs, this was soon completed
by a boiler-making activity.
1913
: Development agreement with AIR LIQUIDE
As early as 1913,
SAF recognized the advantages offered by the coated electrode
welding process, and in 1919 launched the first all-welded construction
ship : the SAF4.

1958
: Creation of the Technical Centre for welding applications
The Technical Centre
for Welding Applications created jointly with AIR LIQUIDE comprises
more than 100 engineers and technicians who work on the latest
technologies aimed at increasing productivity, production quality
and improving the welding/cutting environment.
1974
: Setting-up of a worlwide network
SAF is implanted throughout
the world via its own subsidiaries, AIR LIQUIDE subsidiaries or
extremely competent importers permanently kept up to date with
welding and cutting techniques.
1988
: Commercy Soudure joins with SAF
Through the intermediary
of SAUVAGEAU, COMMERCY SOUDURE joins with SAF. SCS, created in
1990 from the association of COMMERCY SOUDURE and SAUVAGEAU, works
in synergy with SAF. This subsidiary possesses its own commercial
network.
1991
: SAF acquires OERLIKON
1994
: AIR LIQUIDE launches a bid
AIR LIQUIDE launches
a bid for SAF and thus owns 97% of its capital.
1996
: Creation of AIR LIQUIDE WELDING
AIR LIQUIDE
WELDING comprises three brands of worldwide repute : FRO, leader
in the Italian market, OERLIKON, very highly renowned in the domain
of welding consumables and market leader in Germany and the SAF
group, leader in the French market.



2005 : d'AIR LIQUIDE Welding reorganizes its brand
policy
