Solar welding !
With SAXO 3.0 supplied with solar photovoltaic electricity

SAF experimented with "le Club des
Utilisateurs de Photopiles" (Mr Alain RINGNET, 14, rue des
Champs 53250 MADRE) a use of a SAXO range welding set (coated
electrodes applications, for maintenance and repair works) with
solar photovoltaic electricity.
Here is the Mr Alain RINGNET's testimony:
Experiment situation:
"The house, located in the South of Spain, is far from the
local electric network
The electricity is coming from photovoltaic solar panels which are
connected to a 48 volts - 400 A/h storage battery. This direct
current electricity is transformed into 230V alternative current as
the EDF one in France or the SEVILLANA one in Spain, thanks to an
inverter of 3.5 kVA power."

Testing types
and works:
"Tests of welding works were done with 2.5 mm diameter
rutile and stainless steel electrodes. Then, building works of the
garage doors were done with SAXO 3.0
set"

Measurement equipment
used:
"A numerical voltmeter and an ampere meteric clamp"
Observations:
"All the people who tested the welding set SAXO 3.0
were well-surprised by the excellent quality of the welding. Spanish
masons who were on the worksite were particularly astonished by the
lightness of the equipment and the easyness of the welding sticks
striking. They would have bought this kind of equipment... I gave
them SAF France contact information. They informed me that they
haven't seen yet this kind of power set in Spain.
With a 2.5 mm diameter stick, the maximum of direct current power
measured and used was of 2.6 kW that is to say 50 A under
52 Volts (battery voltage); with an 0.9 output inverter, the
consumption in alternative current was 2.3 kVA.
What is new, is that you can weld with a SAXO 3.0 even in an
isolated place from the electric network even without power
generating unit group. With power generating unit of the lower range
(3 kVA power), the welding set works too but I noted that striking
was more difficult."
