PARTNERSHIP

Guima-Palfinger and SAF: hand in hand

Contact:
Alain Aubry

Having embarked on a determined quest to improve its productivity, the company Guima-Palfinger* has found in SAF a partner that provides innovative and comprehensive responses. SAF has been working with the company since March, proposing industrialisation solutions for its manufacturing, which include equipment, training and diagnosis.

• First step: Once the PROMIG torches had been validated by the welders, the company signed a "Storex Comfort Torches" contract under which SAF supplies, maintains and manages the stock of torches and wear parts and installs several automatic distribution controllers in the workshop. These contain wear parts and torches that the operators come to collect themselves. "The torch, points out Alain Aubry, SAF head of sector, is a much-used tool, requiring several thousands of contact-tubes a year. The computer-integrated automatic controller manages stock replenishment and consumption monitoring. "Storex Comfort Torches" guarantee constant availability and operability of the production tool. The contract results in improved productivity, simplified management and clearer visibility of operating costs."

• Second level: Sharing of expertise. In June, the Guima-Palfinger management team was received at the SAF site of Saint-Ouen l'Aumône for a welding information day (technical data, safety awareness, etc.).

• Third stage: Safety audit in July. Analysis of motions, operating procedures, equipment, etc. Four SAF specialists scrutinised the workshops of the two production units at Caussade to pinpoint sensitive areas and propose a series of recommendations. PROMIG AZUR fume extraction torches are already being tested.

This initiative is centred on close co-operation and trust. "This is genuine joint venture, concludes Alain Aubry, Our structures allow us to propose this new welding initiative. For the company, we are a precious source of information, because we see its facilities through different eyes."

*Guima-Palfinger: Specialising in the manufacturing of lifting and handling equipment, Guima-Palfinger is world leader in on-board cranes and the lifting arm.
