Fincantieri acquires 40 SAFMIG 480 TRi

Like many ocean-going giants, the cruise ship Caribbean Princess impresses onlookers with its huge shining structure; but equally impressive is the "lightness" of its two upper decks (1000 tonnes) made of aluminium. Lighter ships, reduced fuel consumption, excellent corrosion resistance, improved stability…, the advantages of aluminium and its alloys are manifold. Assembling these metals imposes very clear constraints, requiring high-performance, perfectly adapted equipment. Which is why Fincantieri shipyard at Monfalcone opted for the SAFMIG 480 Tri proposed by FRO* and acquired 40 installations.

The SAFMIG 480 TRi has a specific pulsed arc mode for light alloy welding applications, perfected by CTAS** and characterised by many winning features: a very soft arc for minimum splash, guaranteed penetration with no risk of sticking, very easy to use. In addition, this new mode, called SPRAY MODAL, assists in driving out gaseous inclusions and therefore almost entirely eliminates pore holes.
